Trump threatens to impose tariffs of up to 20% on countries that do not have trade agreements with Washington.

In a new step within his strategy to protect the American economy, US President Donald Trump announced on Monday, July 28, his intention to impose comprehensive tariffs ranging between 15% and 20% on imports from countries that have not concluded bilateral trade agreements with the United States.

During a press conference held in Turnberry, Scotland, with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in attendance, Trump said: "For the rest of the world, I think the tariffs will be in the range of 15 to 20 percent... I just want to be nice."

This statement represents a major escalation in US trade policy, as Trump indicated that the tariffs would be higher than those previously announced in April, which were only 10%.

The US president explained that his country cannot make trade agreements with all countries, adding: "We will impose these tariffs on most countries of the world, because we cannot sign 200 different deals, and this is what they will have to pay if they want to enter the US market."

This escalation comes at a time when the deadline for imposing new tariffs, set for August 1, is approaching, while dozens of countries have so far failed to reach agreements with the United States.

This decision would directly affect global trade and increase tension in the markets, especially given the ongoing trade war with a number of key trading partners.
